Liverpool FC set for Dublin pre-season return

Liverpool will return to Dublin for their third friendly in four years.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are set to travel to the Irish capital on August 5 to take on Athletic Bilbao in their final preparations for the new Premier League campaign.

The game with Los Leones sees the Reds return to the Aviva Stadium, where they bookended their 2013/14 campaign against Celtic and Shamrock Rovers.

Athletic’s only meeting with Liverpool was in a European Cup tie during the 1983/84 season, when the trophy came back to Anfield for a fourth time.

Club ambassador Ian Rush, who scored in the 1983 encounter, admits that he is relishing the game, which will be a 5.15pm kick off ahead of the new season.

He said: “We always get such an amazing reception in Dublin.

“Even though this is a friendly game, I’m sure our incredible Irish supporters will make the atmosphere just as good when we meet Athletic Club this time around.”

Tickets will go on sale on Friday, June 2 with a pre-sale starting for Liverpool fans on Wednesday, May 31.
