Liverpool FC given fresh boost for Kirkby switch

Liverpool have been boosted in plans to move their first team base to Kirkby.

A new complex which will incorporate the Reds’ senior set up with its current youth academy in the area are expected to be completed by summer 2019.

Planning applications for the new £50 million project, which will signal an end to the club’s link with Melwood, have been published through Knowsley Council.

The local authority and Anfield chiefs held a public consultation in March which received overwhelming support, with 94% of residents backing the proposed move.

Designs produced by architects KSS, who created the blueprint for the new Main Stand, the new campus will also see community facilities created and improved.

An existing outdoor pitch will be transformed into an indoor facility while a purpose-built stand will allow spectators attending games at the Kirkby complex.

New pathways are set to be created for dog walkers and cyclists while local clubs will also benefit from improvements to existing pitches and changing rooms.
