Liverpool FC have ‘advantage’ in top four race, says Carragher

Jamie Carragher expects Liverpool to secure a top four finish due to the ‘advantage’ of not competing in Europe this season.

Last night’s draw with Bournemouth at Anfield saw Jurgen Klopp’s side fail to consolidate their Champions League credentials as they conceded an 87th-minute equaliser.

The Reds still remain two points clear of Manchester City, who have a game in hand, in third place and a further six ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United.

Both clubs have two games in hand but Carragher expects his former club to edge ahead of arch rivals United and Arsene Wenger’s struggling Gunners.

“I think Arsenal will miss out,” he told Sky Sports.

“I also think Man United will still be in the Champions League next season if they win the Europa League. Liverpool have an advantage of no European football.

“But I feel if Liverpool and Tottenham get into the top four they have had a great season because they don’t have the budget that other sides maybe more going for the title have.

“I think, with the position they’re in, Liverpool would be really disappointed if they didn’t make it and I think it would be a big blow if they don’t finish in the top four.”
