Liverpool FC duo facing Merseyside derby battle

Liverpool forwards Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho face a race against time for next month’s Merseyside derby.

The pair have been called up by Brazil for their World Cup qualifier with Paraguay which takes place just three days before Everton’s visit to Anfield.

Coutinho and Firmino face a 12,000-mile round trip to represent their country and will be flying back to Liverpool in a bid to make the 228th derby encounter.

Owing to their lengthy return and 12.30pm kick-off time, Jurgen Klopp is likely to have just one training session in which to assess the duo for the April 1 clash.

Firmino missed the Reds’ recent win over Burnley through injury but is expected to return for this weekend’s trip to Manchester City after resuming training.

Between them, Firmino and Coutinho have scored 17 goals for this season.
