Klopp: Liverpool FC inspired by Barcelona comeback

Jurgen Klopp admits that Barcelona’s Champions League comeback has inspired Liverpool to return to the competition.

The Catalan giants staged a remarkable fightback on Wednesday to overturn a three-goal deficit in the final seven minutes against Paris Saint-Germain.

Barca’s fightback overturned both a 4-0 first leg defeat as well as the Ligue 1 champions’ away goal on the night which gave them an upper hand in the tie.

Liverpool have qualified only once for Europe’s elite club competition since suffering a humiliating group stage exit under Rafael Benitez in 2009/10.

But Klopp has been handed a renewed relief in the Reds’ pursuit of a return to the Champions League by events at the Nou Camp earlier this week.

He said: “I don’t miss Champions League because I know we were not good enough to qualify for it.

“But I still know it is wonderful to play there. I don’t need this feeling in front of the television to be highly motivated to go there next year.

“But when I watched it this week, especially the Barcelona game, I thought: ‘I love football’.

“It is unbelievable that things like this are possible. It was great to watch of course.”
