Liverpool FC paid over £15m to sack Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool had to pay over £15 million to part company with Brendan Rodgers.

Figures from the Anfield club’s accounts have revealed the full cost of their acrimonious break with the Northern Irishman during his October 2015 sacking.

Rodgers was barely 18 months into a four-year contract when he was replaced as Reds manager by Jurgen Klopp following a Merseyside derby draw with Everton.

Offloading the current Celtic boss and his long-standing and final members of coaching staff saw Liverpool pay out £15.669m in redundancies in 2015/16.

Assistant manager Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh were both culled in Rodgers’ planned overhaul of his back room staff during summer 2015.

Sean O’Driscoll and Gary McAllister were appointed in the pair’s place but departed just five months later as the 44-year-old was relieved of his duties.

Liverpool announced last week that they had made a pre-tax loss of £19.8m in the previous financial year.
