Liverpool FC set to expand The Kop’s capacity

Liverpool have submitted plans to expand The Kop’s capacity as part of accessibility improvements at Anfield.

Earlier this month the Reds announced plans to increase the number of wheelchair bays to 250, which will see the loss of around 1,000 general admission places.

In attempts to make up the shortfall, Anfield officials have outlined proposals to increase the Kop’s current capacity of 12,390 by an additional 470 seats.

Also included in the plans submitted to Liverpool City Council are improved viewing positions for visiting disabled fans as well as raised bays in the Centenary Stand.

A full-height lift will also be added to the Centenary Stand to allow disabled supporters to reach the upper level using a wheelchair-accessible route.

The majority of construction work is due to take place in the summer and is expected to be completed in time for the start of the new 2017/18 season.
