Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has claimed it is the right time for the Reds to be suffering a dip in form.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have currently gone five games without a win in the Premier League and only managed one win in their last ten in all competitions.
Last weekend saw them beaten 2-0 by relegation-threatened Hull City, a result which saw them fall out of the top four and 13 points behind league leaders Chelsea.
Manchester United’s win against Leicester City on Sunday also means that Jose Mourinho’s side are only a point behind in sixth place.
There are fears that Liverpool’s dip in form could see them missing out on a top-four place entirely but Thompson is backing his old team to secure Champions League football.
“I think Liverpool are having their blip and will come back,” he told Sky Sports.
“Everybody was getting very excited because Liverpool were on such a good run and in a good position, but it’s maybe the right time to have a dip in form in the sense that they can turn it around for the run in.
“They have to learn how to be quicker in possession around the box, which is the issue with breaking teams down.
“Jurgen Klopp has got to go back to his best team that started the season, which is with Roberto Firmino central, Sadio Mane on the right, Philippe Coutinho left and Georginio Wijnaldum in for Emre Can.
“It’s fair to point out that I’m obviously a Liverpool man but when it’s so tough to call I’ve got a back my old team.”
