Liverpool FC agree deal for unwanted defender

Tiago Ilori is set to join Reading after Liverpool accepted a bid for the defender.

The centre-back originally moved to Anfield in summer 2013 but had to wait a further two-and-a-half years before making his Reds’ first-team debut.

Ilori failed to feature under Brendan Rodgers, who farmed him out on a series of loan spells to Granada, Bordeaux and Aston Villa in successive seasons.

Jurgen Klopp recalled the Portugal under-23 international midway through his Villa spell and handed him starts in three FA Cup ties last term.

But Ilori is now expected to restart his career with the Championship side later this week after they saw a deal worth £4 million accepted by Liverpool.

The move will represent a loss on the original £7 million outlay Liverpool paid to prise the highly-rated 23-year-old from Sporting Lisbon.
