Klopp hints at Liverpool FC business in January

Jurgen Klopp is sizing up his options in the January transfer window in the event that Liverpool’s injury crisis worsens.

Daniel Sturridge joins Philippe Coutinho in missing today’s trip to Bournemouth while Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino missed Tuesday’s EFL Cup win over Leeds.

Should they overcome the Cherries, the Reds will return to second place in the Premier League as they bid to maintain touching distance of leaders Chelsea.

Klopp has previously insisted that he is not preparing to sell any members of his current first-team squad in the forthcoming window.

But the Liverpool manager admits that the option of bolstering his ranks may be taken up should injuries continue to mount.

He said: “The more injuries we have, the more you think about it.

“But a lot of people thought in the summer we should have more players and I thought it worked out really well.

“I sat with the scouting department, speaking which (targets) are for winter, which for summer.

“It is always like this and you need to be prepared. If we need someone, we will try everything we can to do it.”

Liverpool could extend their unbeaten record in all competitions to a 16th successive game at the Vitality Stadium as they remain in the hunt for the title.

But Klopp insists that no one at Anfield is getting carried away by the prospect of ending a 27-year wait to be crowned champions of England again.

“Until now, nobody has celebrated anything,” he added.

“It doesn’t feel like this perfect start or whatever. It feels only like we did what we had to do. It is absolutely normal that people will start dreaming.

“What I can say is I’ve been here 15 months or something, I cannot carry the history of Liverpool FC. These boys cannot carry the history.

“If you want to say it’s a problem because we have not been champion for 26 years, I’d say this group with myself have actually only tried it for the first time this year.”
