Liverpool FC ‘have to wait’ on Philippe Coutinho injury

Liverpool face an anxious wait to discover the extent of Philippe Coutinho’s ankle injury, Jurgen Klopp has admitted.

Coutinho was stretchered off with his ankle in a brace midway through the first half of the Reds’ eventual 2-0 win over Sunderland.

The Brazilian, 24, later left Anfield on crutches and wearing a protective boot following the challenge from Black Cats midfielder Didier Ndong.

And Klopp concedes that the initial prognosis of Coutinho’s injury does not offer any indication of its severty.

He said: “We have to wait for the scan.

“What we know in this moment is it’s something with the ankle. That’s it. We all have to wait.

“He was in pain. Pain gets better. In the first moment it was obviously very painful but already when I saw him at half-time he said the pain was much better.

“But it’s how I sad, we have to wait.”
