Liverpool FC must get used to teams like Southampton

Jurgen Klopp has warned that Liverpool must come to terms with facing teams determined to ‘stop’ them.

Southampton held the Reds to a goalless draw on Saturday in a frustrating encounter which saw the erstwhile Premier League leaders spurn several golden opportunities in front of goal.

It also proved to be the hosts’ first game without registering a shot on target since 2012 in a game which mirrored Liverpool’s stalemate with Manchester United last month.

But Klopp insists that the Anfield club have to make peace with their new-found status as a team to beat.

He said: “Manchester United was different, we were not that good against United.

“If we would have played like we did today against United, it’s not that we would have won but we would have had more chances in the game. That’s not a problem.

“A lot of teams play like this against us, we cannot change what they do. I don’t know what they think, you have to ask them.

“We are [a side] to stop, unfortunately. The only thing what we have to make sure is that it’s not because of us, that’s what I’m so happy about.

“We said before, that was a concentration battle. Stay in the game, even when it doesn’t work like this, stay in the game, don’t let them attack or counter attack.”
