Man breached football ban twice in a week

A Merseyside man breached his football banning order twice in a week.

Daniel Lloyd was serving a three-year ban when he attended Liverpool’s Champions League game with Atletico Madrid on September 17 last year.

The 42-year-old was recognised by stewards at Anfield Stadium and duly ejected during which he shouted a homophobic comment at one of the staff.

But Lloyd, whose existing ban was just weeks from expiring, was again seen in the vicinity of the stadium on September 20 before a Merseyside derby.

Police arrested him on suspicion of a public order offence. He was also arrested on suspicion of two counts of breaching the banning order.

Lloyd, from Birkenhead, pleaded guilty at Sefton Magistrates Court on Thursday (January 29) to both of the charges levelled against him.

He was issued with a new three-year banning order which will expire at the end of January 2029 alongside fines connected with the case.

Superintendent Pete Clark said: “Lloyd showed a clear disregard to his previous banning order where he breached it twice, just weeks before it was due to expire.

“We will take action and identify those who commit hate crime in any form, and this includes abusive behaviour which could incite violence and cause distress to others.

“I hope this sends a clear message that this behaviour will not be tolerated and acts as a deterrent to others that we will be put you before the courts to be prosecuted.”
