Footballer Alex Greenwood is among Merseyside’s New Year Honours recipients.

The England international, who played for Liverpool and Everton earlier in her career, has been recognised for her services to the sport with an MBE.

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust’s chief executive Mary Bennett and nurse turned race equality consultant Michelle Cox also received the distinguished honour.

Hugh Baird College principal Rachael Hennigan was another of those named in King Charles’ end-of-year roll with an OBE for her services to further education.

Sarah Beresford from the Prison Reform Trust will also become an OBE in recognition of helping children with parents in the criminal justice system.

Rounding off the region’s many new honours was Merseyside Police’s newly installed chief constable Robert Carden, who will receive a King’s Police Medal.
