A Liverpool MP who was suspended by Labour has been reinstated.
Ian Byrne had the whip removed alongside six of his peers for a minimum period of six months after voting for an opposition motion in July last year.
It meant that he represented the West Derby constituency he has served since being elected in 2019 as an independent candidate since then.
The Merseyside politician supported a bid by the Scottish National Party to scrap the two-child benefit cap in a bill that was defeated by 363 votes to 103.
Mr Byrne was joined in the move against the government’s bill by Liverpool-born former shadow chancellor John McDonnell, who remains suspended.
However he has been one of four readmitted to the party alongside fellow parliamentarians Richard Burgon, Imran Hussain and Rebecca Long-Bailey.
