Efforts to save Zoe’s Place from closure have been handed a huge boost.
The charity’s Liverpool branch is facing a race against time to secure a new site before the end of the year when its current West Derby lease expires.
Since the shock announcement earlier this month, a fundraising campaign has been set up to generate the £5 million to keep the baby hospice going.
Several prominent businesses across the city have joined in the efforts with the latest coming from the Liverpool-based owners of Home Bargains.
TJ Morris, who owns the chain of discount stores, has pledged £2.5M which means only a further £1M is now required to secure the future of Zoe’s Place.
Joan Stainsby, executive trustee of Zoe’s Place, said: “This unprecedented pledge reflects the generosity and overwhelming support we are experiencing from the Liverpool community and beyond.
“As a charity, we are immensely grateful to Home Bargains for standing by us in our time of need.”
Ian Byrne, the MP for West Derby, added: “This is unbelievable news and what an example of Liverpool coming together.
“A huge thanks to Home Bargains for their generosity in helping us to take a huge step forward to secure a bright future for Zoe’s Place Liverpool.”
