Liverpool FC’s iconic Shankly Gates to be relocated upon Anfield return

Liverpool FC have revealed the new location for the iconic Shankly Gates when they are restored to Anfield.

The gates have been kept in storage whilst building work on the Main Stand’s current expansion takes place.

A planning application reveals how the club will install the gates further down Anfield Road, than their original location.

If approved the gates will move from the corner between the Anfield Road stand and Main Stand to the corner between the Anfield Road and Centenary stands.

When the gates were removed for the development, it was expected that they would return to the same location however the planning application has revealed otherwise.

The planning application says “the new location will provide an appropriate setting for the gates in design and visual amenity terms”.

The application to Liverpool city council says the gates will remain “largely closed for viewing and contemplation by visiting fans and others”.

The document also says: “Views through the gates to the Centenary stand and stadium will also be possible.”
