Theresa May booed and heckled on Liverpool visit

Theresa May was booed and heckled during a public visit to Liverpool.

Members of the public aired their displeasure to the Prime Minister as she prepared to commemorate this year’s Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

Mrs May stood alongside several prominent local and state figures as they celebrated the work of the country’s military as part of the nationwide event.

Among them was the Earl of Wessex, the Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon and Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson at the event on the city’s Pier Head.

She also toured several displays at the event but was still subjected to shouts of ‘shame on you!’ from dozens of disapproving people in attendance.

Mrs May’s visit came after she lost the Conservatives’ majority at the General Election and was criticised for her handling of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

Brexit negotiations have also begun while the Tories are yet to strike a deal with Northern Ireland’s controversial DUP party to form a coalition government.

Earlier this month Liverpool held demonstrations against the planned talks with the DUP, who have opposed women’s rights and same-sex equality.
