Liverpool City Council has taken back direct control of its essential services.
From Saturday (November 1), the local authority will have full responsibility for various duties including waste collection, street cleansing and grave digging.
The services were previously operated by Liverpool Streetscene Services (LSSL), a company which delivered them alongside commercial contracts in the region.
But the council has brought the operations in-house as part of a move agreed at a cabinet meeting last year in response to feedback from a residents’ survey.
Around 700 staff contracted to LSSL will be under direct employ with no changes to bin collections or the process to report maintenance issues for residents.
Council leader Liam Robinson said: “We have listened closely to feedback from residents and have taken on board the issues that matter the most.
“We know that creating a cleaner, greener city for everyone is a high priority and insourcing staff from LSSL will provide us with opportunities to drive innovation and efficiency across a number of services.
“Staff at LSSL have always provided exceptional service for residents and businesses and having them as part of the Council will allow us to build and develop this in the future.”
