Liverpool shoppers are being urged to get online to support their high street stores.
In a bid to increase the city’s UK Digital Influence Index ranking, shoppers are being told to join in online conversation.
The index monitors people’s use of social media when talking about their shopping ventures on the local high street, which Liverpool currently ranks fourth in the UK.
A new collaborative campaign has begun to help increase footfall by getting shoppers to use the hashtag #WDYT, which stands for “what do you think”.
The hashtag hopes to inspire people to post pictures of things that catch their eye on social media to connect retailers to consumers digitally.
By using #WDYT and including their town, i.e. #Liverpool, then tagging the retailer where they saw the item, shoppers have a chance to win the product.
The goal is to show people what is available in stores on their local high street and hopefully draw them into the stores and support the local businesses.
Polly Barnfield OBE, CEO and Founder of Maybe* which runs #WDYT, said: “With the increasing culture of online shopping, reviews and research, retail is now a 24/7 experience.
“The use of digital channels influences 78% of purchase decisions.
“Embracing these channels can reap significant benefits for both individual retailers and their combined towns and cities.”
The campaign was tested in July 2016 with success and is now being rolled out across the country with a further seven towns and cities, including Liverpool now getting involved.
