Parking restrictions around Everton’s new stadium have been scaled back.

Liverpool City Council originally imposed a 365-day inclusion zone bordering Hill Dickinson Stadium that negatively impacted residents and businesses.

The restrictions of the Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) were temporarily suspended just a month later following widespread backlash.

Those plans have now been scaled back with the local authority forced to U-turn on its controversial proposals first introduced in February this year.

Non-event day parking restrictions will be introduced alongside extended waiting limits of up to four hours when Everton are not playing at the stadium.

Council chiefs claim that the event day measures will apply to any event held at Hill Dickinson Stadium which would hold 10,000 or more spectators.

Additional parking bays will be made available for local businesses and community venues in the area with Blue Badge bays on Regent Road.

Tne new measures will take effect from August 4, five days before Everton’s final ‘test match’ in a pre-season friendly with Italian giants AS Roma.

Cllr Dan Barrington said: “We understand that traffic and parking arrangements can significantly affect daily routines and operations.

“We’ve been fully committed to working with residents and businesses to make this process as smooth and fair as possible.

“These refinements reflect the invaluable input we’ve received from residents and businesses and we’ll continue to listen, monitor and review the scheme to establish if any further modifications will be needed.

“Our goal is to strike the right balance between matchday operations and everyday life in the neighbourhood.

“I would like to thank the local community for its ongoing cooperation as we finalise arrangements for safe, efficient matchday traffic management.”
