Tom Davies is set to leave Everton after rejecting the offer of a new deal.
Davies’ contract at Goodison Park is set to expire at the end of this month, bringing the curtain down on a 13-year spell from rising through the ranks.
But despite having the chance to stay at the Blues, the 24-year-old has taken the decision to pursue first-team opportunities away from his boyhood club.
Kevin Thelwell confirmed that Davies, whose uncle Alan Whittle was part of Everton’s 1970 title-winning team, passed up the option of an extension.
“We offered Tom a new contract,” confirmed director of football Thelwell.
“But he feels he has reached the stage in his career where he needs regular first-team football and, as a result, he wants to look at alternative options away from Everton.
He added: “As a lifelong Evertonian and proud Scouser, Tom has always given everything for the club.
“We respect his decision and thank him for his service and commitment. Everyone at Everton wishes him the very best for the future.”
Tributes to Davies were also paid from Sue Gregory, chief executive of the club’s charity arm Everton in the Community, for his various contributions.
She said: “On behalf of Everton in the Community, I want to thank Tom for his tireless efforts and commitment to our charity.
“He has always been unwavering in his support and was a fantastic ambassador for the club, which included doing charitable work of his own accord around this city he loves so much.
“We thank him for everything he has done for us.”
