Liverpool have been hit with a £30,000 fine following illicit chanting during their Europa League win over Manchester United.
UEFA today confirmed the Reds will be punished for travelling fans singing ‘Manchester is full of ****’ during the March 17 clash at Old Trafford.
Half of the fine has been suspended for a probationary period of two years by European football’s governing body but Anfield officials were also handed a £13,000 fine for setting off fireworks, throwing objects, crowd disturbances and delaying the second-half kick-off.
In addition, Liverpool have been ordered to agree a settlement with United for the damages caused by visiting supporters in the Last 16 encounter, which Jurgen Klopp’s side won through on aggregate.
United were hit with a £30,000 fine for chants aired by their own fans during the clash, also partially suspended, as well as for object throwing, crowd disturbances and blocking stairways.
Liverpool are yet to discover the sanctions from their other disciplinary breaches in the Europa League, including both legs of their quarter-final with Borussia Dortmund and last week’s final defeat to Sevilla in Basel.
