Dejan Lovren has slammed ‘disgusting’ death threats made towards his family.
Lovren shared evidence of the threat in an Instagram story on Tuesday following a turbulent on-field spell for the Croatia international over the past month.
The Liverpool defender captioned a message sent to him, which read ‘I’m gonna murder ur family u Croatian prick”, “horrible what kind of people we have.”
In a follow-up post, Lovren added: “I don’t mind when people talk s*** about me, it says more about them!
“But I cannot ignore when my family is threatened. I just can’t and won’t accept that. Disgusting.”
Lovren found himself substituted midway through the first half of Liverpool’s 4-1 humbling by Tottenham earlier this month amid ongoing criticisms about his performances.
He also missed last weekend’s game over Huddersfield Town after pulling up in the warm-up with a slight strain which forced him out of the 3-0 win.
Jurgen Klopp unequivocally backed Lovren and fellow under-fire Liverpool teammate Simon Mignolet in the wake of the Wembley hammering by Spurs.
Earlier this season the former Southampton centre-back admitted that he had been taking up to five painkillers per game to play through injury problems.
