Steven Gerrard is set to take over Liverpool’s under-18 side from next season.
Gerrard rejoined the Reds in February, just four months after he called time on an illustrious playing career that was spent predominantly with his boyhood club.
The 36-year-old has been working within the Academy set-up from which he originally graduated during his Anfield heyday but is now set for a promotion.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and youth director Alex Inglethorpe made the decision on the back of Gerrard’s early work in coaching varying age groups.
Klopp has pledged to help Gerrard realise his ambition of someday stepping into senior management and the under-18 role is another step in that direction.
The BT Sport pundit is also expected to don Liverpool colours for one final first-team appearance as part of next month’s end-of-season friendly with Sydney FC.
