Confirmed: Liverpool FC duo to miss Everton clash

Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge will both miss Liverpool’s clash with Everton.

Henderson has been absent for the past five weeks since picking up a foot injury during training ahead of the Reds’ trip to Leicester City last month.

The Liverpool captain previously set the visit of Ronald Koeman’s side as his anticipated comeback date, having missed his side’s previous four games.

But Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Henderson is due to sit out the 228th Merseyside derby and suggests it may be some time before he can return.

He said: “Jordan, unfortunately, had a little setback so he’s not in team training until now.

“I can’t say in this moment how long, hopefully not too long.

“We hoped he would be in training this week but he wasn’t. It doesn’t look like next week too, we have to wait.

“It’s only a question of time. It’s nothing we could do. We have to be really careful with him.

“If there was a little chance that Hendo could run and train then he would do it.

“We can’t take a risk. It’s always too long with injuries. It’s not the best time but there’s nothing else to do.

“We’ll wait for the moment when he’s back again.”

Sturridge had also hoped to feature against Everton in some capacity after making a long-awaited return to first team training earlier this week.

But the England international, who has not featured since a defeat to Hull City at the beginning of February, is still some way off making his playing return.

When asked on Sturridge’s chances, Klopp replied: “No chance.

“I heard he’s training but I don’t know who gave this information. When the player is on the training pitch with the rehab coach, that’s not training.

“He’s in a good way at this moment but there’s no chance for this weekend.”
