Liverpool’s preparations for the visit of Chelsea have been boosted by news that Roberto Firmino’s court appearance has been delayed.
Firmino was scheduled to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning, less than 12 hours before the Anfield clash, over a drink driving charge.
Police originally stopped the Brazil international last month as he was driving through the city centre in the early hours of Christmas Eve.
In a bid to avoid clashing with the game against the Premier League leaders, Firmino requested that his court date was put back by 24 hours.
That request has now been granted, allowing the 25-year-old to feature in the game for Liverpool before appearing at court on Wednesday morning.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are attempting to avoid a fourth successive home defeat, a record last set at Anfield on Christmas Day in 1923.
