Liverpool FC player Roberto Firmino has been charged with drink driving.
The Brazilian footballer was arrested after police officers pulled over his car in Liverpool city centre during the early hours of Christmas Eve.
Merseyside Police have confirmed that Firmino, who joined the Anfield club in 2015, was detained for the act and will appear at the city’s Magistrates Court on January 31 next year.
“Merseyside Police has charged a 25-year-old man with drink driving after his car was stopped in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday, December 24 2016,” a spokesperson said.
“Roberto Firmino, from Liverpool, will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court on January 31.”
That date will coincide with Liverpool’s crucial Premier League game with current leaders Chelsea, which takes place at Anfield in the evening.
Firmino informed the club of the charge and is set to continue with training as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepare to welcome Stoke City on Tuesday.
