Virgil van Dijk has revealed that Matthijs De Ligt is on Liverpool’s radar.
De Ligt is being tipped to move to an elite European club after rising to prominence over the previous two seasons with both Ajax and Holland.
Ronald Koeman believes that the teenage defender will soon leave the Amsterdam club, with Barcelona and Manchester United said to be in the hunt.
Reds defender Van Dijk has backed his national coach’s calls, claiming that De Ligt is well on his way to making the ‘next step’ in his burgeoning career.
“He is already very far, especially at that age,” he told De Telegraaf.
“A good defender, good boy, calm, knows what he wants and hopefully he makes the right choice in his next step.”
Asked whether Anfield is a viable option for De Ligt, Van Dijk added: “He will be on the list, because they have enough scouts at the club.”
When questioned if his opinion has been sought on his international teammate, the 27-year-old admitted: “No, but if they need my opinion at Liverpool, I’ll give it.”
