Mo Salah crowned Footballer of the Year

Mohamed Salah has been crowned Footballer of the Year for 2022.

The Liverpool forward took 48 per cent of the Football Writers’ Association’s award, finishing ahead of Kevin de Bruyne and Declan Rice respectively.

Salah was one of nine players in Jurgen Klopp’s side to receive votes to reclaim the award that he first won in 2018 after an impressive debut season.

He became the Reds’ 15th recipient of the accolade and only the club’s third player to win it twice, following in Kenny Dalglish and John Barnes’ footsteps.

The Egypt international’s 22 goals have seen him lead the Premier League’s Golden Boot race and could also win Playmaker of the Season with 13 assists.

In all competitions, Salah has produced a combined 44 goals and assists in 44 competitions as Liverpool continue to chase an unprecedented quadruple.

The award will be presented to him at the FWA’s annual dinner on May 5.
