Diogo Jota faces a race against time to be fit for the Carabao Cup final.
The Portugal international sustained ankle ligament damage during Liverpool’s Champions League last-16 first leg victory over Inter Milan on Wednesday.
Jota underwent a scan on the problem in Italy, where the Reds stayed an additional day due to impending storms which have hammered England.
But despite initial results confirming the injury, its full extent is not yet known, leaving the 25-year-old doubtful for next Sunday’s showdown with Chelsea.
Jurgen Klopp revealed after his side’s win at the San Siro that Jota, who has scored 17 goals this season, appeared to have twisted his ankle in the game.
“It was swollen which isn’t a good sign, but we have to see,” he said at the time.
“We’ll check it as early as possible tomorrow but we’ll need further assessment.”
Jota is not expected to be available for Saturday’s Premier League visit of Norwich City but has not been ruled out of a quick recovery after that.
The forward previously shook off a foot problem in the final week of last season to return to the fold for Liverpool’s finale against Crystal Palace.
