Liverpool have shut down their training ground amid a Covid-19 outbreak.
The AXA Training Centre was closed for an initial 48 hours on Wednesday due to a raft of positive coronavirus cases within Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad.
Klopp, his assistant Pep Lijnders, the Reds’ entire goalkeeping staff and three senior players are currently isolating after returning suspected positive tests.
Lijnders had been due to take part in a pre-match press conference looking ahead to Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg trip against Arsenal.
Explaining the shutdown, Liverpool confirmed that they had suffered further positive Covid cases in addition to those discovered on Monday and Tuesday.
“The decision was made after consultation with the relevant Public Health authority,” read a club statement.
“The new cases are in addition to those recorded on Monday and Tuesday morning.”
A request by Anfield officials for the tie at the Emirates Stadium to be postponed in light of the Covid situation is awaiting the EFL’s decision.
