Jurgen Klopp will miss Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea after a positive Covid-19 test.
Klopp’s side were already heading into Sunday’s clash at Stamford Bridge without three first-team players who had also returned positive results.
However the German is now set to be a notable absentee against the European champions after reporting mild symptons ahead of the fixture.
Assistant manager Pep Lijnders will take charge of the Reds in the capital however three further members of the backroom staff also tested positive.
Anfield chiefs confirmed that no potential issues with playing staff were found in the latest round of testing beyond the trio already sidelined for the game.
The identities of the players in question has yet to be revealed, with Klopp remaining tight-lipped when asked about the situation on Friday afternoon.
“We have three new Covid cases in the team and a few more in the staff, so it’s not so cool in the moment,” said the Liverpool manager.
“I’m not [able to reveal the names] because we still have to make the whole processes, getting a proper PCR and all these kind of things.
“But you will see the day after tomorrow on the teamsheet. It will be pretty clear then who is affected or infected.”
Last month Liverpool suffered a quadruple hit of absences with Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara and Curtis Jones all sidelined by positive results.
