Fabinho stood down for Burnley’s Anfield visit

Fabinho is set to miss Liverpool’s game with Burnley after a family bereavement.

The Brazil international was absent from training on Thursday as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepared for their latest encounter against their North West counterparts.

It has since emerged that the reason is due to the fact that the player’s father, Joao Roberto Tavares, passed away earlier in the week.

Fabinho, who signed a new five-year deal this month, is the second Reds player to suffer a parental loss this year following the tragic death of Alisson’s father.

Klopp confirmed on Friday that he will not play any part against the Clarets in what will be Anfield’s first match in front of a capacity crowd since March 2020.

He said: “I would like to say it’s a private situation.

“Fab is here and is doing what he is able to do and that’s it pretty much.

“We all feel for him, we all feel with him and we give him and his family our condolences.

“We try to give him all the warmth, all the love we have in this moment and that’s it.

“The rest is private.”
