Curtis Jones ruled out of Liverpool season opener

Curtis Jones has been ruled out of Liverpool’s Premier League opener with Norwich City.

The homegrown midfielder was withdrawn early in the first half of the Reds’ final pre-season friendly against Spanish outfit Osasuna after receiving a knock.

But Jurgen Klopp confirmed on Wednesday that Jones had actually suffered a minor concussion which led to his premature substitution two days prior.

Protocols now dictate that the 20-year-old will not be available for his side as they kick off their new 2021/22 campaign at Carrow Road on Saturday evening.

“He had a slight concussion so we just have to follow the protocol,” said Klopp.

“He is fine, he feels fine again, but that’s the protocol.

“He is available for training from Sunday on I think.”

Liverpool’s only other notable absentee for the clash with the Canaries is Andy Robertson, who suffered suspected ankle ligament damage against Athletic Club.
