Jurgen Klopp wants ‘real’ Liverpool to face Madrid

Jurgen Klopp wants to Real Madrid to experience the ‘real’ Liverpool in their Champions League quarter final.

Wednesday’s Anfield showdown sees the Spanish champions bidding to book a place in the last four by consolidating a two-goal cushion from the first leg.

The Reds suffered back-to-back defeats against Zinedine Zidane’s side with last week’s 3-1 reversal mirroring the 2018 final between the teams in Kiev.

But Klopp has implored his players to recapture their previously imperious form if they are to stand a chance of overturning the deficit from Los Blancos.

He said: “When you’re 3-1 down, it looks like you are already out. That means you have not a lot to lose, let me say it like this.

“Everybody is [talking] about our comebacks in the past and it was with supporters. That’s true. But [there are] a lot of problems we will face before we have even a chance to win.

“The result (last week) is a problem, the quality of the opponent is a problem, and then obviously that the stadium is empty is a problem.

“For me, much more important is the performance. We have to play like ourselves. Then we will see where the result leads us to.

“When we are really good then we can beat Real Madrid. But we have to be really good. What we have to do is pretty clear.

“Everyone who saw us playing well knows what we have to do in these moments because it is exactly playing like our best selves.

“Then we can win the game.”
