Liverpool draw Man Utd in FA Cup 4th round

Liverpool will take on Manchester United in the FA Cup’s fourth round.

The draw pitted the Premier League champions against their North West rivals just a week after they face off in Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash.

United could leapfrog the Reds at the summit if they win their game in-hand over Burnley on Tuesday ahead of the heavily anticipated Anfield showdown.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are set to travel to Old Trafford for the 17th time against top-flight opposition in 26 cup ties since their current manager took the helm.

In the FA Cup that number is considerably larger with nine of the club’s last 12 encounters coming solely against their Premier League counterparts.

A late Dirk Kuyt goal proved enough to give Liverpool a win the last time they faced United in this competition, coincidentally at the same stage, in 2012.

It was the second such meeting of the teams in the FA Cup within 12 months, with the Red Devils edging out their arch-rivals on Kenny Dalglish’s return.

United have won eight of their post-war meetings with Liverpool in the world’s most famous club cup competition including the finals of 1977 and 1996.

Current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored a last-minute winner in a fourth round meeting with Liverpool at Old Trafford in January 1999.

Whichever team triumphs in this latest match-up will go through to a home tie with the winner of Stockport County/West Ham and Doncaster Rovers.
