Liverpool lead FIFA’s The Best shortlist again

Liverpool have headed up nominations for FIFA’s The Best 2020 awards.

Six representatives from Anfield were included in Wednesday’s shortlist for the prestigious accolades handed out by world football’s governing body.

No other club has more nominees in the Best Player category than the Reds’ quartet of Sadio Mane, Thiago Alcantara, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Thiago’s former Bayern Munich teammate Robert Lewandowski and Barcelona captain Lionel Messi, last year’s winner, were also included in the running.

Alisson Becker looks to retain his title in the Best Goalkeeper category with Manuel Neuer, Jan Oblak and Marc-Andre ter Stegen vying for the crown.

Jurgen Klopp will also bid to cling onto the Best Coach award despite competition from within the Premier League and across European football.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa and Bayern’s Champions League-winning coach Hansi Flick, Zinedine Zidane and Julen Lopetegui are the others in contention.

FIFA have opened voting for the award to the public until 10.59pm (GMT) on December 9 with the winners announced at a ceremony on December 17.
