Henderson ruled out of Leicester City clash

Jordan Henderson will miss Liverpool’s showdown with Leicester City.

Henderson withdrew from the England squad on Monday evening with a slight groin injury sustained during his country’s Nations League defeat to Belgium.

The Reds’ captain was expected to return for this weekend’s top of the table clash as Brendan Rodgers returns to his former Anfield stomping ground.

But Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Henderson is now set to miss out on the meeting with the Premier League leaders as he continues his recovery.

He joins Trent Alexander-Arnold on the sidelines as the homegrown right-back attempts to shake a calf injury picked up against Manchester City.

The Foxes’ visit could however see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain make his first appearance of the season after suffering a knee injury in the summer.

Liverpool will make late fitness checks on midfield duo Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho in the build-up to Sunday’s highly-anticipated match at Anfield.

“We will see, [but] Hendo not and Trent not, that’s clear,” said Klopp.

“All the rest we will see. They are in a good way, Ox [is] in a good way.

“They are all closer but we will see if it is close enough for the weekend.”

Klopp also expects Mohamed Salah to return to Merseyside on Friday despite returning a second positive coronavirus test while on international duty.

However the Liverpool manager refused to condemn the Egyptian for breaching social distancing measures in attending his brother’s wedding.

He said: “There is absolutely nothing to say in the public about the things I talk to my players about.

“What I can tell you I was in the summer in Germany, a friend moved his birthday party only because of me.

“Fifty people attended there and I decided at the last minute not to go – and that was only a birthday party and it was allowed in Germany.

“It was outside but I didn’t go. That is only one situation.

“In other situations there is more social pressure on you and a brother’s wedding is a very special moment.”
