Ilkay Gundogan believes it is ‘fair’ if Liverpool are given the Premier League title should the 2019/20 season be voided.
Manchester City were trailing Jurgen Klopp’s side by a 25-point margin before the English top flight was suspended following the coronavirus outbreak.
League chiefs are planning to resume matches from April 30 but that date is expected to pushed back further as the spread of Covid-19 continues.
The vast majority of Premier League clubs, including City themselves, remain in favour of continuing the current campaign when it is deemed safe to do so.
But City midfielder Gundogan says that the Reds should be awarded in the event that the remaining nine games cannot be played.
“For me, that would be okay, yes,” he told German broadcaster ZDF.
“You have to be fair as a sportsperson. There are different opinions. For clubs who have had a very good season, it obviously wouldn’t be nice if it was cancelled now.
“On the other hand, for clubs who aren’t doing as well and are maybe in the relegation places, an abandonment would obviously suit them.”
