Liverpool to end season in New Balance kits

Liverpool are set to see out the 2019/20 season wearing New Balance kits.

The Boston-based sportswear manufacturer’s deal with the Reds had been due to expire on May 31, with Nike taking over on the following day.

But the prospect of Premier League games continuing into the summer due to the coronavirus outbreak threatened to complicate the Anfield club’s plans.

Current regulations prohibit clubs changing strips midway through a campaign, which would prevent Liverpool from wearing Nike until next term.

However, The i claim that the Premier League leaders will complete the season in their current New Balance kit until it officially ends later this year.

All football in England has been placed on hold until April 30 at the earliest in light of the Covid-19 pandemic affecting the United Kingdom in recent weeks.

Matches were initially suspended until April 3 but later amended.

High Court judges found in Liverpool’s favour when New Balance brought a case against them last October over the termination of their arrangement.

The club’s existing supplier argued that the move was anti-competitive as they had been denied a chance to match Nike’s £70 million per year offer.

Liverpool, Nike and New Balance have all refused to comment on the claims.
