Liverpool named Europe’s cleanest team

Liverpool have been declared the statistically cleanest team in Europe.

Findings published by the CIES Football Observatory on Monday revealed the runaway Premier League leaders have committed the fewest fouls per game.

Jurgen Klopp’s side make on average 8.1 fouls, far below the English top flight’s average of 20.4 which is the lowest of 35 competitions surveyed.

Danish outfit Silkeborg (8.89) were second to the Reds while Bundesliga promotion hopefuls Hamburg (8.94) sit in third in the data breakdown.

Liverpool are also second in the Premier League’s Fair Play table, with only Leicester City recording fewer than their 23 yellow cards and one red card.

The European champions remain on course for a long-awaited first league title since 1990 and currently hold a 16-point lead at the summit.
