FA Cup draw sends Liverpool on the road

Liverpool face a trip to either Bristol City or Shrewsbury in the FA Cup fourth round.

Monday’s draw handed the European champions a lower-league away day against the winner of the replay between the two sides on January 14.

Bristol last faced the Reds in January 1994, when their shock third round replay win at Anfield culminated in the sacking of Graeme Souness.

Meanwhile Shrewsbury were on the receiving end of a 4-0 thrashing by Liverpool just two years later under Souness’s successor Roy Evans.

Jurgen Klopp’s side reached the next round after beating Everton in Sunday’s all-Merseyside encounter, which was settled by Curtis Jones’ wonder strike.

It is expected that Liverpool’s upcoming tie will take place on Sunday, January 26 due to a congested Premier League fixture list either side of the FA Cup.

The champions-elect face Wolves on Thursday, January 23 before a rescheduled meeting with West Ham on Wednesday, January 29.

Klopp is yet to steer his side beyond the fourth round of the competition, bowing out to West Ham and twice to both Wolves and West Brom.
