Liverpool given double Man City fitness boost

Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk will both be available for Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City.

Henderson missed Tuesday’s Champions League win over Genk with an illness which had made him an early doubt for Sunday’s top-of-the-table showdown.

The Reds’ captain was sent home from Anfield by the club’s medical staff amid fears he could be sidelined for the Premier League champions’ upcoming visit.

Doubts over Van Dijk’s involvement against Pep Guardiola’s side surfaced when he was absent from training at Melwood on Thursday for an unknown reason.

But Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the pair will be in contention for the game, with only Joel Matip, Xherdan Shaqiri and Nathaniel Clyne still on the casualty list.

He said: “Virg was for other reasons not here [on Thursday] but he is completely fine.

“Jordan is completely fine. Joel [Matip] is still out, like Shaq and like Clyney.

“That’s it, probably.”

City, meanwhile, are sweating on the fitness of Ederson after their influential goalkeeper limped out of their Champions League draw at Atalanta in midweek.
