Naby Keita has been ruled out of Liverpool’s Champions League final clash.
Keita suffered an adductor injury in the Reds’ semi-final first leg defeat to Barcelona at the end of April but had been tipped to make a surprise comeback.
Guinea head coach Paul Put claimed the midfielder would be available for the Africa Cup of Nations and could even feature in the meeting with Tottenham.
Keita continued his recovery away from the rest of Jurgen Klopp’s side and took part in a light training session on Tuesday ahead of the trip to Madrid.
But the Liverpool manager confirmed that any hopes of the 24-year-old playing any on-field role in Saturday’s showpiece are all but over.
“No chance for Naby (to play in the final),” said Klopp.
“He is really progressing well, we will see how it will work out for him for the Africa Cup of Nations.
“We don’t know that yet.”
Klopp revealed that he fully expects to have Roberto Firmino available in time to face the Londoners after missing Liverpool’s season run-in with a groin problem.
He added: “Bobby trained, was part of training last week and looked really good, everything was fine.
“Then we took him out again. He will be in training from tomorrow on again.
“All that we saw so far looked really good and he will be fine, I’m pretty sure.”
