Airport arrest of Ellis Cox murder suspect

A suspect in the murder of Ellis Cox has been arrested at Liverpool Airport.

The 19-year-old man from Maghull was detained by police upon his arrival at the city’s Speke terminal on Thursday (April 23) on a flight from Spain.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, where he will be questioned by detectives about the fatal shooting in Aintree in June 2024.

It brings the total number of arrests in this case to seven, with the previously arrested six people all released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.

Ellis, 19, was gunned down at the Liver Industrial Estate as police continue to hunt his killer.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath said: “I hope this latest arrest shows how our investigation team remain as determined as ever to get justice for Ellis’ family and time is no barrier to our relentless pursuit of all those involved in his murder.

“Although we have now made another arrest in connection with this incident, I want to urge anyone with information to come forward.

“It has been nearly two years since Ellis was shot at the Liver Industrial Estate and his family have been forced to live without anyone facing justice.

“If you have any information whatsoever, please search your conscience and come forward. The smallest detail could be vital to our inquiries.”
