Alexander-Arnold commits to Liverpool until 2024

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed a new five-year contract.

Alexander-Arnold’s renewal comes less than 48 hours since fellow full-back Andy Robertson committed his long-term future to the Reds with a similar length deal.

The 20-year-old will remain within the ranks at Anfield until summer 2024.

Since making his first-team bow in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has made over 60 appearances for his boyhood club and scored four times in the process.

He became an integral figure for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they embarked on a run to last season’s Champions League final as well as a regular fixture with England.

The West Derby-born player previously signed two deals in the past 18 months but has now been rewarded for his increased prominence within the first-team.

“There wasn’t a doubt in my mind. As soon as they offered the contract, there was no hesitation whatsoever,” said Alexander-Arnold.

“The thing that made it easiest for me was having the people around me to make sure I was able to focus on football as much as possible and get the deal done as soon as possible.

“That is down to my brother especially, my manager, who took that role and allowed me to focus on football and not get distracted, which is the main thing.”

Klopp added: “I’ve spoken a few times since I’ve been here about Trent signing new contracts, but I have to say this one is a little differen.

“The previous ones he signed them maybe as a ‘boy’ – and I don’t mean that in any way to be disrespectful to his importance at that particular point of his life, more about his age, but they were different to this.

“This one is very much about ‘the man’ and the player he has become, the status he now has both with us and in the game, and it is thoroughly deserved.”
