Liverpool and Roma charged over fan violence

Liverpool and Roma have been charged for fan violence at last month’s Champions League semi-final.

A 5-2 first leg win for Jurgen Klopp’s side was marred by ugly scenes outside Anfield before the game that left one Reds supporter fighting for his life.

Sean Cox, 53, remains in a critical condition following an attack by Italian hooligans outside the Albert pub shortly before kick-off on April 24.

UEFA have now opened disciplinary proceedings against both clubs involved.

Roma will face a charge for crowd disturbances when European football’s governing body prepares to assess their case at a May 31 hearing.

Liverpool have already been hit with a raft of charges by UEFA this season in their successful run to Saturday’s Champions League final with Real Madrid.

They are already facing charges for damage sustained to Manchester City’s team coach as it arrived at Anfield for their quarter-final encounter.

A further two disciplinary counts were added in the return leg at the Etihad Stadium due to further object throwing and use of pyrotechnics.
