Liverpool hit with fresh UEFA charges

Liverpool have been hit with two new charges after their Champions League win over Manchester City.

Anfield chiefs were already facing four counts of UEFA disciplinary action from last week’s quarter-final first leg victory over Pep Guardiola’s side.

But European football’s governing body will now bring a case against the Reds over fan behaviour at Tuesday’s last eight showdown at the Etihad Stadium.

UEFA have now added two further counts of ‘setting off of fireworks’ and ‘throwing of objects’ to Liverpool’s growing rap sheet.

It takes the combined number of charges that the club will face at the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on May 31 to six.

City’s coach suffered extensive damage as it made its way to Anfield for the first leg, with two police officer sustaining injuries as objects where thrown.

Liverpool were ordered to pay a combined £52,000 after being found guilty of multiple breaches in their run to the 2016 Europa League final.

This included crowd disturbances related to violent scenes before the tournament’s showpiece at Basel’s St Jakob-Park, where they lost 3-1 to Sevilla.
