Jurgen Klopp has labelled Liverpool fans who attacked Manchester City’s coach as idiots.
Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final at Anfield was marred by an attack on Pep Guardiola’s side as they prepared to reach the stadium.
Reds supporters had gathered to welcome both team coaches before kick-off but a number of missiles, including bottles and cans, were thrown at City’s coach.
Two police officers were injured in the maelstrom while extensive damage was sustained to the bus windows which led to disciplinary proceedings from UEFA.
Klopp was not impressed by the scenes which took place outside Anfield and condemned those who took part in the violent scenes for the role they played.
The Liverpool manager also revealed that City had treated an injured fan as they were leaving the stadium.
He said: “I have to say apologies for what happened before the game.
“For our coach the support was fantastic. Then I heard something had been smashed on City’s bus and it killed everything. It was a few idiots.
“Then the medical staff did what they did after the game. It was an outstanding gesture from City. It was an outstanding thing to do. It leaves us in an even worse situation.
“The atmosphere during the game was one of the best I’ve experienced but these things that happened around it are not okay.”
